If you're at the State Forest headquarters or the Castle Mound campgrounds you're going the wrong way!
Established in 1957, the Black River State Forest encompasses approximately 68,000 acres of public land in Jackson County Wisconsin. The landscape is largely due to glaciation during the Ice Age which is responsible for the formation of the buttes, hills, knolls, ridges and pediments that can be found in the forest. Scenic overlooks can be found at several locations along the trails that run through woodlands and rolling terrain.
2022 is a reboot, a do over, a fresh start. This year we're bringing back many things that made the race special in years past. We're also starting a few new traditions and adding some new ways of doing things.
The new 85k distance is a combination of ALL the races. You'll start early and run the 10k course. When you get back from your warmup you'll head out on the 50k course. All that's left is to head back up the ridge and finish your 25k cool down. It really is the best way to familiarize yourself with the Black River Trail Classic and become a local legend of the state forest. There's a 12 hour cut-off for the 85k.
There are campsites available at Black River State Forest. You can check out all the camping options on the Black River State Forest website.
